fantastic island nation Sri Lanka part one
Sri Lanka are a
fascinating country that lies in the Indian ocean. Sri Lanka is an island and
surrounded by sea. India is the closest neighbor. Officially name is the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
Many are fishers
and farmers, but the country is also very known for the arts and crafts.
Especially metal works and dancing.
On the 4 of
February, the Sinhalese celebrated their 70 years of independency. In 1948 they
got their independence from Great Britain and in 1972 they change the name of
the state from Ceylon to Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka consist
of two large ethnic groups, the Sinhalese, and the Tamils. The Sinhalese have
ca 75 % of Sri Lankas population and the Tamils ca 18 %. The rest consist of
different smaller groups of people, like the Moors, Burghers, Malays, and also Chinese.
Sri
Lanka's documented history spans 3,000 years. But it is evidence of
pre-historic human settlements dating back to at least 125,000 years. The Sri Lankan
culture have roots long time back and have got influence and give influence on
all visiting people, past the history.
Sri Lanka is part
of the maritime silk road.
Sri Lanka is known
for the friendly and smiling people.
The nation is
known for tourism and have many ancient ruins to see and visit. And some of the
most beautiful beaches in the world is located on Sri Lanka. The possibilities to
go surfing are good in Sri Lanka.
